Could you imagine a collective space; a community of hair, beauty, and cosmetic services? Well such a place exists, in Newport Beach, and this place is known as Platino Salon & Suites. Envisioned and come to life by Frank and Laurel Chirico, I ventured into this month-old concept salon & suites not knowing what to expect since I do not regularly attend salons to have my hair cut.The norm is letting my hair grow until it gets in the way, resulting in a quickie trim at the nearest haircutters; a practice I should cease to do since my hair is my pride & joy and I really should put more care into it!
On a Saturday morning, I showed up to Platino with my friend Jen, and we immediately felt the attentiveness and welcoming atmosphere from co-owner Frank and fellow hair stylists. Everything from the front entry way, plush waiting area, salon stations to the complimentary coffee & mint-infused water and intimate salon suites; were clean, crisp, and modern.
When Jacque arrived, she led us to our very own suite; fully equipped with 2 salon stations, a small sink, and our very own music player.
I really enjoyed the personalized experience, we were in a secluded suite, listening to music that we preferred, but at the same time we had access to the rest of the salon and it's resources.
I had never had a hair stylist pay such attention to detail when it came to my hair; Jacque made sure she understood how much of my hair I wanted to trim/cut, suggested layers to be added; as well as took my color preferences and created a gorgeous turquoise color that worked for my hair.
The biggest thing for me before I had my hair cut was the weight of my hair. It really weighed down on my head whenever I tied it up in a bun or ponytail; Jacque was able to make it feel significantly lighter without cutting off a ton of my hair lengthwise.
If you live in or visit Orange County, and are looking for a hair stylist that is knowledgeable, highly skilled, and FUN; you must contact Jacque Jacobs!
Prices start, depending on length; at $135 for a cut AND color! I am all about quality and the overall experience when getting my hair done, and you will definitely get every bang for your buck with Jacque. A Little Bit about hair Extraordinaire Jacque Jacobs
-Originally from Hawaii
-The first time she cut her hair very short was when she was in the hospital and under heavy medication. She asked the nurse for scissors, and didn't remember cutting her hair at all. After coming to the realization that she had done this, she went to Super Cuts for damage control. She had no idea she wanted to be a hairdresser when this event occurred
-Used to have Fire Engine Red hair
-Listens to Reggae Music
-Equally enjoys cutting and coloring hair, she likes to see the transformation after doing both
Quick Tips from Jacque
1. To wash hair properly, apply and lather in shampoo to just the top of your head, and conditioner to the rest of your hair (should help you conserve on shampoo/conditioner)
2. Try to wash your hair every 2(for thinner/shorter hair)-3(for longer/thicker/courser hair) days. It is not necessary to wash every day
3. Worried about oily hair? Use dry shampoo! Not every dry shampoo works for every hair color. Some dry shampoos apply as a white form, which only works on light colored hair. For all hair colors, Jacque suggests Tigi Catwalk Dry Shampoo
4. For easy waves tomorrow, put your hair into bridal braids (see below) when your hair is wet and wear for a full day/night. When you take your hair out the next day, apply mousse/hairspray!
5. Moroccan Oil, Moroccan Oil, Moroccan Oil
It's nourishing, hydrates, and gives a great finish to your hair
6.Product is not used enough! Invest in good product and it will be worth it! Especially when dealing with humidity
7. When all else fails with the weather effecting your hair, do something like a messy curl; curl your hair with an iron, apply hairspray to hold, and the result will be a messy, but pretty beach-y look!
Applying lightener to my ends, gotta get that dark hair in tip top shape so color will adhere!
Platino Salon & Suites had a 2-page spread in Orange Coast Magazine! Jacque used Pravana Chroma Silk Vivids Demi-Permanent Dye in Green & Blue (mixed together!)

Today, I went to the beach with my children.
ReplyDeleteI found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She placed
the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it
pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
