Volume Silk Eyelash Extensions from Social Lashes in Costa Mesa, CA

I was ecstatic to be offered an opportunity to receive a full set of eyelash extensions from Social Lashes as I have not had them since this past April, and I really liked how extensions enhanced my eyes while wearing minimal - no makeup. I could choose between a Classic Set or a Silk Volume Set, and I opted for the Silk Volume Set because the lashes are thinner and would be applied in clusters (fans of lashes that are made right before applying, not pre-made), therefore creating more of a fan effect with the lashes in comparison to the Classic Set in which each lash extension is thicker and applied one at a time.

THE SPACE

Upon arriving I took a liking to the stark white surroundings and minimal design. Social Lashes is prominently affixed to an accent black wall and draws you over to the reception desk. The lovely Kelley checked me in and I was whisked away to one of five rooms; each room has empowering words like fearless, bold, and darling  fastened to the wall and witty phrases above doorways.

THE SERVICE

The gorgeous Kasey (owner of Social Lashes) consulted with me on what type of lashes I was looking to do (they have the lashes on small wands that you can hold up to your lash line to see what each eyelash style could look like), then instructed me to lay down on the salon bed. She had me close my eyes and applied two pieces of tape under my eyes. She explained that due to the adhesive she was using to apply the lashes, I would need to keep my eyes closed and to let her know if I needed to open my eyes. While applying the lashes, she used a fan to assist in drying; it must have been some industrial strength glue because my eyes teared up a few times while closed. But I was finished in an hour and the results were phenomenal. I seriously felt so sassy with my new set of Silk Volume Lashes, and I received a couple spooley brushes and a lash care card. To maintain the lashes, I would need to come in every 2-3 weeks for lash fills.

LASH EXTENSION MAINTENANCE

Per the lash care card, I made sure not to get my lash extensions wet (or apply heat or steam) for the first 24 hours, although you can still get your lashes wet while having them on to ensure they stay clean. In general, when washing your face avoid the direct eye area or rubbing on the lashes. You also don't want to use an oil-based eye makeup remover or any oil-based products as the oil will eat away at the adhesive and the lash extensions will fall out faster. Because the lashes are so curled and prominent there is no need to wear mascara, which is great because you shouldn't be applying mascara to the lashes anyways. While sleeping you want to make sure to not sleep on the lashes (thankfully I'm mainly a back and side sleeper and didn't have any problem sleeping with the lash extensions on).

MY THOUGHTS

The first week was easy for me to maintain the lash extensions, this was also the first time that I had much fuller and longer (but curled) lashes. I mainly used cleansers that I could apply with a cotton pad, therefore it was easy to avoid the eye area. I also had my spooley brush on me everywhere I went so I could easily brush out the extensions. Towards the second week, it proved to be more difficult for me to maintain the lashes as I was wearing full faced makeup, and removing that effectively while avoiding the lashes was difficult (regardless of the makeup remover type) because I like to wear heavy winged eyeliner. I also was testing out a variety of facial cleansers and I grew tiresome of having to carefully wash my face. It seems my eyelashes grow quickly as I could feel the base of the lash extensions and they would on occasion, poke at my lash line which started to irritate me, leading me to pull at some lash extensions (which is a HUGE NO-NO). By pulling the lash extensions out, you can damage your own lashes (so don't do that). At two and a half weeks from having the lash extensions applied, they are no longer on my lash line as they were either pulled out or fell out from makeup remover or the way I had washed my face.

The lash extensions were absolutely stunning while I had them on, because that meant I could walk out with essentially no makeup on, and feel put together because the eyelashes were so bold and defined my eyes. I received many compliments for the lashes and they didn't look overwhelming. With that said, I would suggest having eyelash extensions if you are particularly meticulous with your skincare routine and don't mind carefully washing your face (this includes in the shower). As well as making sure to have them filled every 2-3 (definitely 2 weeks if your lashes grow quick) weeks. Social Lashes if the perfect place for new or seasoned lash extension wearers; the staff is wonderful and you'll be well taken care of! The also offer lash lifts! I'm also very excited for Social Lashes because they will be opening a second location in Los Angeles!
