Wedding Venue Tour of Mt. Woodson Castle in Ramona, CA

Back in September when Scott and I started our wedding venue search, we focused a lot on locations throughout San Diego since we wanted a space that was far enough removed to feel like a semi-destination wedding, but not too far where it was out of reach for our guests. Our first stop was Mt. Woodson Castle in Ramona California. It features a rustic, historic castle built in 1921 which used to serve as a private residence. The castle and surrounding land serve as a beautiful and charming backdrop and location for a wedding or special event.

PROS

I really enjoyed the casual tour, it was "open house" style where Scott and I got to meander around the property on our own time with a guide and map in hand.

The coordinator Iman, was on site for any questions or inquiries we had. Iman quickly sent us a quote the following week after our visit and quoted us a few different options.

Packages are all inclusive and includes quite a bit: staffing, day of coordinator, ceremony/reception space, basic furniture for ceremony and reception, bar and catering.

There's inside and outside options for ceremony and reception (available based on guest count and pricing) Bride & Grooms dressing rooms/suites, and children's room available.

There's a beautiful area outside covered with arching oak tree branches - that's where I would have wanted to hold the wedding ceremony (but of course it's an additional fee to use that space).

Plenty of parking

CONS

Additional fees associated with using specific spaces on the property (but overall prices are competitive for what you receive) If you have specific style preferences, this is much more of that secluded, rustic feel.

Also if you have specific food preferences, you can only use their catering services - so whatever is on their menu is what you select and will serve on your wedding day.

Not as easily accessible or close to freeways, but it was still simple enough to find our way to the venue next to a golf course - but thankfully there isn't interference from guests going to and playing on the golf course so the location still feels private for a wedding event.
