Black Owned Swimwear Brands to Shop

It’s the thick of summer and I’m on the hunt for new swimwear, therefore I wanted to share a handful of Black owned swimwear brands to support if you’re swimwear shopping as well! Ideally, for any “new” shopping that I’m doing, I wanted to be as sustainable as possible, but I feel like sustainable swimwear brands are just starting to emerge in general. In the mean time I’m happy to support the Black business community where I can - here are 10 Black owned swimwear brands to check out:

Luxury and sustainable swimwear through responsibly sourced manufacturers using ecofriendly fabrics and low-impact dyes to create bold graphic prints and silhouettes. Styles for men and women and also includes RTW pieces that exude elements of “Sexy, Sporty and Chic”. Designed by Gionna Nicole in New York City, with a commitment to minimizing our carbon footprint and extending swimwear life by offering interchangeable and reversible swim styles.

This sustainable swimwear brand was created by former fashion editor & stylist Brittany Kozerski. She marries her minimalistic aesthetic with innovative designs, that smooth and sculpt the body. Each piece is designed with multifunctionality in mind - wear it day to night, beach to city. And I could see that very much in the latest Terry and Ribbed Collections.

Designed in NYC, and made in LA with sustainably-sources, eco-friendly fabrics.

Clem Swimwear created by J’Lysa Wilson is made for the unapologetic woman who defines beauty from within. The brand undergoes a rigorous fitting process; the fabrication of our swimwear is very generous when it comes to fitting women of all shapes and sizes. The pieces are hand crafted in Los Angeles, CA using the finest materials before being packed and shipped from New York City.

I was immediately drawn to the corset-like designs when looking through the MBM swim styles. There’s something very empowering with the bold lines and shapes. MBM Swim, was founded by self-taught designer Marcia Maxwell - she wanted to combine her love for structured silhouettes and clean lines with her love for swimwear. Maxwell looks at her designs from a unique perspective and is not afraid to add elements of structure and function that isn't traditionally found in swimwear.

The exciting array of womenswear and swimwear designed by Felisha Noel is deeply influenced by her Grenadian heritage and close-knit family. She combines her love of travel, vibrant colors, and bold prints to create luxe, elevated closet must-haves.

I mean….just have a scroll through the “what’s new” section of Bfyne’s site and you will just be awe stroke by the incredible patterns, colors and designs. Each swimwear piece is like a masterpiece. Designer, entrepreneur and Nigerian-American, Buki Ade is changing the fashion industry through her culturally inclusive designs. She was inspired to start a swimwear line after searching for a unique swimsuit while on vacation; there she realized the industry lacked creativity and representation of African designers. Bfyne is bold, eccentric, cohesive and consistent, which encompasses the personality of its cofounder, designer Buki Ade. Bfyne is all about creating super-sexy, flattering designs with awesome colors & prints.

Pulling from her Caribbean heritage, Tamara of Koko D. wanted to provide a line that was intended for the woman who loves life, loves taking risks and who wanted to look awesome while doing it. Koko D. was incepted by her love for travel and different cultures.

This line contains vibrant colors and abstract design with smooth lines for the glamorous and confident woman. It is a fusion of colors and silhouettes that accentuates and defines.

Created by Jessica Wong, the XhaleSwim collection was designed to complement, flatter and support a woman’s body. XhaleSwim’s swimsuits vary from conservative to risqué but always classy. XhaleSwim caters to all women with its luxurious one-piece and two-piece swimsuits. Every swimsuit within the XhaleSwim collection is handmade by an experienced seamstress who resides in Miami, Florida. Xhaleswim’s pieces are one of a kind.

I’ve shared about She The Collection before on my IG as they have a nice selection of versatile wardrobe piece like jumpsuits, dresses and rompers. I was very excited to learn that swimwear is now available! After years of blogging and recycling fashion, Carmen Alexandra decided to produce the clothing that she received numerous inquiries about selling. After being inspired by current trends but discouraged by the fit of most clothing She The Collection's design process started. She The Collection is for the modern woman, the curvy, girly, edgy, and trendy girl of the current generation.

Shay Johnson and Paula Hess founded DOS SWIM in 2019. Starting a brand was never the main focus; they wanted to create something for themselves and their friends. Finding the right fit was always so hard for their respective body shapes. Bottoms, specifically, were always a point of contention, they were either too low on the leg or too high, exposing too much or too little. They wanted to fix that. Collections are created in limited batches with globally sourced and upcycled fabrics. Johnson and Hess are committed to supporting local garment workers and maintaining a sustainable line that also promotes inclusivity.
