I will not downplay, be subservient and make myself and what I share palatable for others. If you’ve gotten uncomfortable or have had a defensive reaction to what I’m saying - I implore you to unpack that fragility. And I will not agree to disagree in these matters of humanity, you don’t have to follow me (on Instagram) just because we know each other have worked together. So kindly - remove me as your follower & unfollow me, thanks!

There may have been a surge in anti-Asian attacks the past year due to increased sentiments of hate towards Asians with the racist rhetoric surrounding Covid-19 - but this mindset and hatred IS NOT NEW. The nation is built on this system meant to keep non-White, CIS, able-bodied people marginalized (again this does not mean you have not had struggles of your own, but this means others have not been given the same respect, access and opportunities like our white counterparts).

For the troll (& anyone else that shares the sentiment) that stated I’m an uneducated moron (I had shared this message to my IG stories) - please educate yourself on the history of racial tensions between Black and Asian Americans due to being pitted against each other resulting in racial resentment, therefore maintaining white supremacy through racial hierarchies.

Because Black perpetrators were seen in video footage, some have reduced anti-Asian violence to Black-Asian conflict. The trope of the Black-Asian conflict is being weaponized once again (see 1992 LA riots) to keep us divided. (brookings.edu)

β€œWhite supremacy is what created segregation, policing, and scarcity of resources in low-income neighborhoods, as well as the creation of the β€˜model minority’ myth - all of which has driven a wedge between Black and Asian communities.” (Vox)

If you’re truly interested in unlearning and relearning, do not demand/expect BIPOC to be your sole educators and provide you with all the resources and answers. You can take the time to do the research and put in the work. If you’re here to stay, I look forward to our journey together because we are stronger in solidarity with each other.
