Panda Melon Pan from 米よりパン!? Niki Bakery & Cafe 上野店 in Ueno - Tokyo, Japan

After visiting the Ameyoko Shopping Street, we were making our way over to Ueno Station when I saw this bakery with pandas all over the sign. Nearby is the Ueno Zoo which has pandas, so the area is known for their panda friends. Niki Bakery & Cafe 上野店 is similar to other Asian bakeries I’ve been to like (Cafe 85), where you grab the tray and tongs to pick your pan (bread). I only wanted to try one of the panda shaped breads, so that’s what I grabbed and enjoyed outside. There’s also a cafe area upstairs from the shop level.

The panda pan is actually called a “Cookie Panda”, which I purchased for ¥300 (~$2). There are a variety of other panda shaped & flavored pans like curry chicken filled. Sandwiches and hot/cold drinks are also available. The pan was o-k, it was a bit dense then I would prefer, but did like the melon cream filling. The brown bits tasted like chocolate. I would not buy again though, and perhaps try one of the other pans.
