Cookie Decorating for Easter at The Cookie Studio - Grunderfully Delicious

I was so excited to get to take my first cookie decorating class and with my girlfriends to celebrate my friend Michelle’s 35th birthday. Taught by Kristin Grunder of Grunderfully Delicious, she teaches cookie decorating with royal icing for Easter-themed cookies that spell out the word HOP!

For $50 per person for the class, and each student receives 6 cookies, all of the royal icing bags and tools needed to decorate as well as a practice sheet. Kudos to Kristin for being on her third class of the day, but still being pretty upbeat and really engaging with the full class (which tend to sell out quick!)

Classes max out at 24 students, and you are welcome to bring food - but due to the studio having a beer & wine license, no outside beverages are permitted. You are able to purchase water, soda, beer, wine and seltzers. So of course I got a truly seltzer (they run at $5.39/can), so I could do the “Cookies & Sip” class to the fullest.

Kristin is great with prefacing the class with how the flow of instruction and us actually decorating the cookies will work. My practice sheet didn’t look so great going from piping icing on straight lines to curved, but I started to get the hang of the hang motions and pressure to apply to the bag after practicing from sheet onto outlining the cookies.

From outlining we would “flood” the cookies with icing, then finish off with enhancements like piping flowers, using chocolate eggs or dusting with edible glitter. To be honest, I was quite surprised at the outcome of the cookies, they’re obviously not professionally done cookies but they really don’t look bad at all. I was expecting the cookies would look way off since I’ve never done something like this before, but they turned out great! Is a testament to how well Kristin can teach, and it’s fun!

Sign up for the Grunderfully Delicious newsletter to be updated on when classes are added, but there are times where classes will be added and it won’t be promoted on the newsletter or on social media - so you can get lucky if you happen to check back to the site frequently to see if there are any new classes. Also the cookie studio itself is so cute - I love how everything is set up, and for the avid cookie decorators out there, you can stock up on essentials as well!
