Trying a Dutch Baby Pancake at the Pancake Bakery in Amsterdam, Netherlands

You know we aren’t going to visit Amsterdam without trying some Dutch baby pancakes! We found The Pancake Bakery which has views of the Prinsengracht canal. i was hoping to get outdoor seating so I could enjoy the fresh air, boats passing by on the canal and some people watching - but we were seated inside. All good, as the food made up for it!

Scott and I both wanted to be able to try savory and sweet dishes, so we ordered the ham omelette which is served with a salad, and “The Dutch” dutch pancake. The omelette we had to keep pretty simple because Scott is a picky eater, so I couldn’t add things like cheese and tomato (which I usually do for my omelettes), but that was fine because it came with a salad and piece of toast.

“The Dutch” pancake under “International Pancakes” has stroopwafels “the traditional Dutch cookie”, cinnamon ice cream, chocolate flakes, whipped cream and powdered sugar. The menu is pretty expansive with the types of omelettes, pancakes and breakfast dishes you can order. You can make a reservation on their site, we just did a walk in and were able to be seated quickly. Eating here is not only experiencing the culture, but a part of Amsterdam history since the restaurant is located inside a 17th century warehouse which used to belong to the Dutch East India Company.
